How Much Pie Can 11 People Eat?
Once every 365 days, there comes a crossover event that’s so strange it actually works. It’s a day for people all over the world to celebrate the mathematical anomaly that is the number Pi by eating a bunch of pies. We take full advantage of March 14th at Cars For Sale with our annual pie-eating contest!
The rules are simple: each contestant gets three minutes and 14 seconds to eat as much of their pie as they can. They can’t use their hands. They can take sips of coffee or water in between bites. They can wear goggles (or not). They can sit on the chair or on their knees. But the end goal is the same: out-eat your competitors.

There were some returning participants from previous years and they came back with goals and strategy.
“I think last year actually helped a weird amount. I knew what to expect this time so I knew not to breath in pie. My only real goal was to get third place. I knew I wanted that much. Last year I went in with the intention to win and Karma humbled me.”
– DeLaney K., Creative Web
About half of the contestants were first timers so what was going to happen was anyone’s guess, but some of the newcomers did seek out advice from past winners.
“I talked to De’Lorian since he placed last year, and he said to not breathe through your nose.”
– Chase M., Support Specialist
The scene was set with 11 chocolate silk pies sitting on tables in front of 11 different competitors. Then, with the start of the timer, they went face first into the pie, whipped topping, and chocolate shavings.

Some people tried to eat as much of the chocolate mousse as they could. Others went right for the crust, going past the massive layer of whipped cream. The crowd of onlookers were cheering, clapping for their coworkers, and videotaping the entire time!
When the time ran out, the real suspense began. The judges took the pies and weighed them, one by one, calculating how much each contestant ate.

“I honestly thought I didn’t do well at all because I saw people with the crust completely gone and I didn’t eat any crust.”
– Chase M., Support Specialist
The final totals were calculated, ranging from 5 ounces to 29 ounces! Those 29 ounces is what gave DeLaney K. the overall 1st place victory. Chase M. and Rod B. came in at 2nd and 3rd places, each eating over 20 ounces on their own!
In total, the 11 contestants consumed 11 pounds of chocolate pie in 3 minutes and 14 seconds. It’s safe to say that none of the participants went home hungry.
