Spirited Competitions

This Halloween, once again, proved that there’s no shortage of creativity or competitive spirit around here. Between the costumes, desk decorations, and the nine pumpkins that we transformed for the Cars For Sale Pumpkin Decorating contest, we made the most of the entire month.

Little by little, cobwebs, orange tinsel, and tiny plastic spiders started to appear. Then, we got the theme for the pumpkin contest: careers. Different departments split into nine teams and each came up with a different way to represent a career.

They included a librarian, a mad scientist, an astronaut (accompanied by a solar system), a scary dentist, a DJ, a hair stylist, and even a Cars For Sale race car driver.

Year after year, the displays get bigger and better. The attention to detail is impressive, but this year there was even movement, with a rotating moon for the astronaut and solar system. There were also a few bubbling liquids and a pouring beaker on the mad scientist display.

“Our team’s collaboration efforts on this project were great! We had different groups responsible for different aspects of the build. From sourcing parts and props to painting, carving, assembly and display, the team did an excellent job working together to coordinate all of their efforts in bringing our mad scientist concept to life.”

By the time October 31 rolled around, we celebrated by dressing up in full-on costumes. From The Matrix to the Minions to a Transformer, there were plenty of cinema throwbacks. There was a Wednesday Addams, the Grim Reaper, Ghost Hunters, a skeleton, a witch, and a couple of horror movie characters. Everyone got in on the fun.

During the afternoon, the votes were tallied and we had costume contest winners — the duo from A Christmas Story, Dorothy and the Cowardly Lion from The Wizard of Oz, and a bunch of bananas.

“I knew I wanted to highlight my amputated leg. I used ChatGPT to come up with the idea. Then, I got everything for it on Amazon.”

The top three costumes took home cash prizes, but honestly, it was hard to pick favorites. Between the candy, creativity, and camaraderie, we couldn’t have asked for a better way to wrap up October.
